Bascom

Bascom is one of the smallest towns in beautiful Jackson County, but it’s also one of the proudest. Residents — totaling about 106 souls — love their community, which sits within a 4.8 sq. mile land area.

HISTORY

Bascom was incorporated in 1901 and was named after the Bascom family, who were early settlers in the area. The town was originally a hub for the timber and agricultural industries, and a number of sawmills and cotton gins were located in the area.

Bascom was also the childhood home of actress Faye Dunaway. Known around here as Dorothy Faye Dunaway, she went on to receive an Emmy Award, an Academy Award, A BAFTA Award, and three Golden Globe Awards.

NATURAL WONDERS

It is located near several outdoor recreational areas, including Lake Seminole and Chattahoochee State Park.

Bascom is also home to Sturgeon Aquafarms, the only farm in the U.S. to possess the critically endangered species, Beluga, Sevruga, and Sterlet sturgeon. The farm has the unique position to protect these species and serve as an educational resource for caviar trading and sturgeon meat.

PLACES

Between the natural views and the reminders of history are shops located in historic homes and buildings. Bascom appreciates the heritage that infuses the area. Modern conveniences blend with old Florida history and nature to set Bascom apart.
